The first facility is already under construction – an R&D centre that will enable development of new battery cell materials and products. This will strengthen Northvolt’s ability to meet the growing demand for customised solutions, whilst also pushing the boundary for next-generation cell technologies.
Other key facilities under development include a new office and customer centre, which will serve as a space for partners, startups, scaleups and academia to meet, collaborate and collectively drive forward European industry players engaged in battery technologies and electrification. Collectively, Northvolt Labs will host a unique ecosystem of capacities for catalysing advances in the emerging European battery industry and employ around 1,000 people.
Northvolt Labs will ramp up the accelerating trend of switching to battery solutions
“We know that producing safe and sustainable battery solutions at scale is a must for fighting climate change. The establishment of Northvolt Labs is intended to ramp up the accelerating trend of switching to battery solutions. Building a campus that will advance the understanding of battery solutions and provide a space for industry players to interact, will help Northvolt to achieve its mission to produce the greenest batteries in the world,” says Carl-Erik Lagercrantz, CEO of Vargas.
