The Land and Environmental Court in Umeå, Sweden, today communicated their decision to grant H2 Green Steel a full environmental permit for its plant in Boden. The permissibility permit came already on July 1, 2022, enabling start of construction. With a full permit, the company also has permission to start operations at the plant.
Through constructive cooperation between authorities, local communities and other reviewing stakeholders, the environmental permit for H2 Green Steel’s ultra-modern plant to produce green steel, green iron, and green hydrogen in Boden in northern Sweden, is now complete.
An enormously important day
"This is an enormously important day for H2 Green Steel. Most parts of the company have been involved in enabling this fast and smooth process. I am immensely proud of the team spirit and competence that have characterized this work,” says Carl-Erik Lagercrantz, vice chairman of H2 Green Steel.
H2 Green Steel is building an ultra-modern manufacturing plant just outside Boden. The permit covers a yearly production of 5 million tonnes of green steel. The operation is not only large in size – covering about 270 hectares – it is also complex and is classified as class A operations in the Environmental code. The entire process, from submitting the application to full permit, has taken less than 18 months.
